ironmanI really like the Iron man super hero. He is like the ultimate creation by human technology. Even the newest military stealth fighters are no match for the hypersonic & virtually invincible flying suit of armor. Tony Stark has got all sorts of high tech weaponry in his Iron man suit like plasma rays & etc. Bound to survive by an advanced mechanical heart, Tony Stark becomes the Iron man to battle any form of terrorism which had caused him to lose his natural heart in the first place.

I thought I would shed some light on the origin of the Iron Man character played by Robert Downey Junior in the movie Iron man . Anthony "Tony" Stark was born on Long Island, New York which obviously made him a citizen of the United States. He is a genius inventor & the son of industrialist, Howard Stark. Tony Stark enrolled in college electrical engineering program at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) at age 15. With his father & mother being deceased, his only known relative is Morgan, his cousin.

Tony Stark then inherited his father's business, Stark Industries at age 21 & made it into a multi million-dollar company after a few years whose chief contracts were weaponry & munitions for the U.S. government. Iron man s first appearance was in the comic Tales of Suspense #39. The movie by Paramount Pictures & Marvel Enterntainment released 2008 next year is different than the original comic book regarding the location where the first Iron man was built (Vietnam) in order to reflect contemporary world issues. I reckon it is a good idea because viewers are able to relate to the present reality & make the Iron man movie more realistic.

Iron man does a sonic boom! Robert Downey Junior suits up to be the first Iron man in the movies. Samuel L. Jackson as an African American version of Nick Fury may not be such a bad idea after all. I mean he is the Samuel L. Jackson who does federal characters extremely well. I mean Iron man is about Robert Downey Junior. He is good at comedies & drama but as an action hero, we will have to wait & see. Also in the foray are the sweet Gwyneth Paltrow & Jim Rhodes which makes the Iron man movie an anticipated star studded blockbuster film next year.

The Iron man armor worn by Robert Downey Junior looks more realistic than the comic book version. In the Iron man movie, the armor looks like a full body casing with advanced hinges at the joints, rivets & the works. The armor of Iron man in the comics looks as though it is a shiny layer of metallic cloth donned over human muscle. A state of the art, magnetic molecular metal binding technology that makes the armor looks like cloth seems to far fetched idea at present. It is good that the costume designers had a more realistic looking suit of armor specially made for the Iron man movie.

street kingsStreet Kings is the story of a rogue crew of LAPD cops that managed to find a way to have free range of the city of Las Angeles. Having free range means that they could practice questionable police tactics without having fear of recourse or fear that they themselves will ever go to jail.
Tom Ludlow (Keanu Reeves) is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. He plays a LAPD detective that has made a career of staying above the law. That entails framing suspects, beating up informants, or even killing people that have gotten in his way that deserved it. For a long time this method of police work seemed to not have an issue with him. Until he finds out that his ex partner was going to rat him out over past police dirt that he had.
This pisses him off, but he gets pissed off even more after a two man crew of thugs decide to kill is ex partner right in front of him. In the maly he is unable to defend off the thugs and save his partner. Afterwards, the department just chalks it up to a loss and attempts to bury the case in paperwork without finding the people that perpetrated the crime. With this crime lingering on his mind and revenge on his heart he starts to find similarities in the crime that start to lead him to question the loyalties of everyone around him, from the captain to the Lieutenant to the next in line officer in his unit. Ultimately, he finds that everyone does have his back until he starts to mess with the status quo that has been built over the past 8 or more years. Soon the hunter becomes the hunted and all hell breaks loose.
I am not a great Keanu Reeves supporter but I have to say that I enjoyed Mr. Reeves in this movie. His personality is not brutal but when force is needed he has what it takes to take care of business. Although, I felt that he was a evil character in the beginning he turned out to be a stand up guy that just needed to know the truth about his ex partner. And in the end it changes his focus to the job of being a police detective and ultimately changes him back to a cop that will fight for what is right. Not, what pays the most.
This movie is not for the weak at heart. So, I would not expect to have children or young adults take a look at this movie. There is a lot of gun fighting and death shots. But it is what it is, a great chiller cop movie with a lot of twists along the way.

The MistI don't know how Stephen King thinks of these types of movies but when he does he is right on point with them.  THE MIST is a throwback from one of Stephen King's older novels but the story line can never get old.

To be truthful I did not know what to expect from this movie.  As the trailers don't really give you insight into what really was/is in the mist.  And going off of some of the other movies that I have seen from previous Steven King movies I did not even think that this movie would be as scary and emotional as it was.  If you have not seen this movie turn away now because I am going to tell some of the parts that really got me.  First of all this movie does a great job of keeping you in the dark until to scare and creep you out.  The mist is not like a foggy day that you can see maybe a quarter mile out and that is it.  No, this mist is so thick that you would not be able to see maybe a foot out.  That is what made it so creepy.  If people ventured out into it they could not see from what angle something would come and snatch them up.

Now I have to admit, I am not a fan of bugs..  I can stand a few here and their but story lines with human sized bug, that reaaaaaaalllllllyyyyy creeps me out.  And this story line had a lot of human sized and larger bugs that snatched and ate humans like it was nothing.  It just made me quiver to think about it.  And these were not normal bugs that you probably could just swat with a broom.  Some of these bugs had distinct faces and shot out acid webs that could cut through clothing and skin.  YUCK....
Man this movie really got under my skin.  I remember a movie that I say when I was a kid that involved ants that would eat their way into humans and live in their bodies and use them a nest.  That movie gives me nightmares even to this day.  I thought about that movie when I was watching this movie.  This movie gave me the same feeling that I had as a kid.

This movie is not for the kids, thus, the R rating.  I had to put my kids up stairs because they wanted to see what was in the mist also.  It has a lot of graphic scenes that would definitely freak out younger kids and some teenagers.  There is not nudity in this film which was a welcome change.  It seems that most movies now feature a lot of nudity to sell the film.  There is a lot of violence so take care and be warned.
Overall, I liked this movie.  It kept me interested to the end and I felt just as frustrated as all the characters.  It also had a surprise ending that I did not even expect.  I definitely recommend this movie for adults.  It is a keeper or a great Friday night rental.

Wow, what a movie.  This movie was gripping and drew out some very telling issues that a lot of marriages go through.  From infidelity, money, to death, Tyler Perry hit on all of the issues that tend to split any sound minded couple up.

This movie starts with four couples that go on a annual retreat to re-energize their marriages and to counsel with Patricia played by Janet Jackson, who by the way played a powerful doctor that specializes in marital and family counseling.  While on the trip the true nature of each couple comes out and almost destroys each relationship.  If it were not for Patricia who also had issues with the death of here son, all of the couples would have split up and never seen each other again.  I don't want to give away to much of the movie, but their was one couple that brought an extra friend that turned out to be the mistress of the husband of this couple.  Wow, this man really pisssssed me of through the entire film.  I wanted to jump on the screen and punch his lights out.  And I am not a violent person.  But he deserved it.  He talked about his wife like a dog and even made her drive to the retreat by herself after she got kicked off the flight for being to large to fit in the seating on the plane.  But she got her revenge in the middle and end of the movie.  Love it...

Tyler Perry really knows how to write and direct a movie.  This one was well done and transitioned from scene to scene with no choppy cuts.  This one is a keeper that children probably should not see because it has a lot of adult themes.  Not nudity but the children will not understand most of the situations.  Rent this one, buy this one, it is a great movie..

10000 BCA testament to the endurance of the human spirit.  I must admit, when I first heard of this movie I thought it would just be another movie with a lot of animal mantronics running around trying to eat all the human, another Jurassic Park.  I was pleasantly surprised that throughout the whole entire movie I only say 3 prehistoric animals.  And if those encounters were brief.  Instead of the director concentrating on the animals of this time they decided to concentrate on the story line and that is exactly what I wanted out of the movie.

This movie starts out with a prophecy from the old lady elder stating that their food supply would eventually run out and would not migrate close to their tribe.  But, she stated not to worry, as a new bread of warrior will emerge from the tribe that will change the way that the whole tribe gathers and grows food.  Enters Evolet played by Camilla Belle.  She is a orphaned that is brought to the tribe after her family is killed.  She is prophesied to be the savor of their way of life and will usher in a new way of living for the tribe.  She is the key and who however wins and marries her will be the savor of the tribe.  Evolet is taken from the tribe which starts the change in the tribe.

I absolutely loved this movie.  The story line flowed with no down time what so ever.  Ever scene helped to make the story even more interesting as the movie moved along.  As for children looking at this movie, it is not recommended.  Their is a lot of fighting and killing either with the animals or the humans.  The movie is rated PG13, I would say that 14 or 15 year old would not have much of a problem with the material in this movie.  But below that, I would not recommend.

Overall this is a great movie that all adults should enjoy.

I am LegendWill Smith has some how re-invented himself again.  I compare this movie to Cast Away with Tom Hanks were he spoke to a Wilson soccer ball for almost 2 hours.  Somehow, he kept everyone entertained.  The same goes for Will Smith, but instead of a soccer ball, he talks with his German Shepard that was left behind by his son.  He also has a few counter parts in manikins that he also converse with throughout the movie.

This movie starts out with a doctor that proclaims to have cured cancer by re-engineering a virus to think different.  The problem is that the virus does not act as it was supposed to.  The virus takes on another nature and begins to change people from law fight citizens to aggressive monsters that pray on anyone that is not like them.  Something like night of the living dead.  Except these people are not dead.  They are just infected with a virus that will not allow them to be calm.

Will Smith on the other hand can't get infected.  He has some kind of antivirus in his blood that fights off the infection.  He is also a biologist that is working to find the cure.  He tries to find the answer for months without contact with anyone.  At times it seems that he is losing his mind, but somehow he holds it together except when he loses his only friend, his dog to the virus.

This movie is not for the weak at heart.  Although it is rated PG-13, I would not let anyone under 13 to 15 see it.  It does not have nudity in it but some parts are a little scary.  But this is a very well made movie.  I should have expected that from anything that Will Smith makes, but I did not hear any reviews neither bad or good when this movie was in the theaters so I had no base line to rate it.  Definitely rent or buy this one, it is a keeper..

I sit back and think of why someone would say that this movie was slow in the beginning or that the last few minutes of the movie were not needed. I believe that every part of the movie was significant to first lead up to how certain characters ended up being who they are.

American Gangster is a story about Frank Lucas one of the most powerful and feared New York crime bosses between the 1960’s and the 1970’s. In New York he was even more powerful than the mafia. During that time Lucas reportedly amassed a fortune of more than $52 million in less than a decade taking advantage of the rise of heroin in the crime stricken New York area.

It was said that Frank Lucas ruled with an iron hand and kept his people in fear in order to make them do what he wanted them to do. Denzel Washington definitely portrayed the iron hand of Frank Lucas. He showed how far he was willing to go in order to keep his streets profitable and in his control.

The story starts out with Frank Lusas (Denzel) as the driver of another drug boss who passed the rings over to Frank Lucas in real life after he died. To Frank this man was like his father. He taught him everything that he needed to know in order to maintain the business when he left. After his mentor dies he begins to contemplate how he could continue the business how he was going to collect all the bad debt that other crime figures owed his old boss. While in this phase he thinks of a way to purchase his drug of choice from an outside source instead of buying from the mafia. He put together a network that would fly pure heroin into New York; he would cut it up and distribute it to separate districts of New York for distribution. He also supplied other connections to ship his product to other parts of the United States. All the while a detective named Ritchie Roberts played by Russell Crowe finds that a lot of people are overdosing on Franks product and is assigned to a unit who’s sole purpose is to bring down major drug bosses. Frank is at that point put in the cross heirs of Ritchie Roberts.

This was a powerful movie that had me thinking of how Frank could have been a rich man in his own right if he did not have a lethal drug as his product. Russell Crowe also plays a very convincing determined cop that finally finds out who Frank was and tracks down his whole network to bus Frank. This is not a kid’s movie. I would not recommend taking any children or teenagers to see this movie. This is strictly an adult movie with adult themes. But it is a must see.

Grumpy Old Men Movie Review

One of the most superb comedies ever filmed, Grumpy Old Men showcases the multidimensional talents of two of Hollywood's most accomplished actors, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. With the additional brilliant comic performance of Burgess Meredith, Grumpy Old Men transforms from a gem of a picture into one of the funniest movies ever made. A sweeping commercial success, the film spawned the sequel Grumpier Old Men - a rare breed of movie that almost lived up to the quality of the original.

In Grumpy Old Men, lifelong friends and neighbors John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) trade jibes on a daily basis against the backdrop of the frozen Minnesota tundra. Maintaining a relationship that appears to be nothing more than a give and take of acerbic sarcasm, the two men actually enjoy a strong bond of kinship that has lasted all their lives. Widowed and retired, both men live a confined and comfortable existence, defined by routine ice fishing trips and visits from immediate family.

But John and Max both find new life when a rambunctious vixen named Ariel Truax (Ann-Margret) moves into the neighborhood. Ariel befriends both men who act as if they aren't interested in her because of their inner fears of leaving their comfort zone. It takes the actions of their friend, local fish store owner Chuck (Ossie Davis), to jar the two men from their comfortable, yet boring lives. When Chuck pays a visit to Ariel's house late one night, he rouses the jealousy of both men who instantly transform into competitors for Ariel's affections.

While Max seemingly has the upper-hand in the quest, the tables quickly turn in John's favor when Ariel communicates her feelings during a late night visit to the Gustafson abode… Meanwhile, John's daughter Melanie (Daryl Hannah) and Max's son Jacob (Kevin Pollack) develop a romantic relationship with one another.

With John and Ariel becoming an item themselves, a wedge is further driven between John and Max who continue their feuding unabated. Only a true father can break up these two fighting boys, which John's father does… But will their friendship be ruined forever?

Flooded with countless one-liners, perfect delivery of insults, and an endless number of comic scenes, Grumpy Old Men is one of the most hilarious films you'll ever have the pleasure of enjoying. The onscreen magic between Lemmon and Malthau is unsurpassed by any comedy duo before or since, and the screenplay is expertly written. In fact, the closing credits may actually be more entertaining than the film itself, which is quite an accomplishment. As the credits run the course of the screen, original outtakes from the film are shown. Burgess Meredith steals the show with his matter-of-fact, coarse utterances, such as "Looks like Chuck's gonna' bury his bone!"

With well-timed humor, and the ingenious performances of several Hollywood veterans, it's no surprise that Grumpy Old Men ranks as a definite must-see film. If you haven't seen it, you have no idea what you've been missing. Trust me, you could rent a hundred films before coming across something that's even close to being as funny as this one.
