Four Christmases Vince Vaughn Reese Witherspoon

Most people did not like this movie.  I heard conflicting reviews from this film.  mountainx.com Ken Hanke said "Four Christmases, a film so monstrously awful that it will probably make a fortune, spawn sequels and cause a mania for gags involving projectile-vomiting babies.", which by the way I thought was a very funny part.  And npr.org said "Gordon's stars are charmless, his script cheerless, and his sterling supporting cast can't seem to figure out what they've been brought on board to do....", ouch...  Critics just did not like this movie...

I would have to disagree with all of them.  Maybe because I am a little scrooge myself.  But I really got into the concept of tow unmarried people that have terrible dysfunctional families that they rather not visit on Christmas.  Here is the backdrop.  Brad (Vince Vaughn) and Kate (Reese Witherspoon) every Christmas ditch going to see their divorced parents.  Instead they make up stories about saving children in third world countries to go on their real vacations to places like Fuji.  The problem is that this year as they try to get their boarding passes at the airport they find out that their plane has been canceled due to bad weather.  Enragged Brad starts to argue with the ticket counter representative which draws the attention of the news carriers who are covering the story of passengers not able to leave the area before Christmas.  LIVE on TV Brad and Kate are asked where they were going for Christmas and are forced to speak of their plans for traveling to Fuji.  The story is seen live by both of their families and immediately their phone start ringing for them to come visit family for the vacation.  Thus, Brad and Kate are forced to visit Four families, the mothers and fathers of each for Christmas.  The twist is that neither have ever introduced each other to their families, nor have they explained how dysfunctional everyone was.  Come to find out neither Kate or Brad really knew each other after all.

I thought that this film was very funny.  But I have a sick since of humor.  So, I really enjoy movies like this.  This movie is not meant to be serious.  It does start to get a little serious towards the end but the transition has a normal flow.  I recommend that people judge for themselves.  If your a serious person you probably would not like this movie.  But, if not go see this one.  You should get a good laugh.

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins - Martin Lawrence, Mike Epps, James Earl Jones

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (Widescreen)

While its story might sound terribly interesting, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins is largely a vehicle for gross-out sight gags and grotesque performances by performers who, in many cases, don't need to do such things. Martin Lawrence stars as R.J. Stevens, a successful, Jerry Springer-like, television talk show host who sets aside his perfect life with a sweet son (Damani Roberts) and celebrity girlfriend (Joy Bryant) to attend his parents' golden wedding anniversary back home in Georgia. From the moment he arrives, all the reasons R.J. left to reinvent himself on the West Coast become clear. His siblings and cousins (Mike Epps, Mo'Nique, Michael Clarke Duncan, Cedric the Entertainer) quickly put him in his place, reminding him that his name is actually Roscoe Jenkins. His sweet mother (Margaret Avery) watches impassively while R.J.'s dad (James Earl Jones) strikes one disapproving note after another. R.J. would be content to wait out the anniversary events and go home, but the arrival of a woman (Nicole Ari Parker) he loved but couldn't keep during his adolescence changes everything, bringing out the competitive survivor within. Written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Undercover Brother), Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins promises rich comedy and dramatic flavorings, as well as a bunch of delightful actors doing what only they can do best. But Lee subverts the project for cheap and easy laughs, using his best material to do little else than bridge scenes of bad slapstick, bestial perversity, clownish sex and irritating, motormouth rants from the likes of Mo'Nique and Epps. This a hard movie to sit through at 114 minutes, one of those what-were-they-thinking-when-they-made-this films.

Definitely, Maybe Elizabeth Banks, Isla Fisher

Definitely, Maybe (Widescreen)

A romantic comedy that begins with a discussion about sex education and ends with a bit of an unexpected twist, Definitely, Maybe focuses on an engaging father and his 10-year-old daughter. She is curious about the women her dad loved prior to marrying (and separating from) her mother. Instead of telling her, "None of your business," he decides to tell her about them... Sort of. Will is played by Ryan Reynolds and his precocious daughter Maya is adroitly portrayed by Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine). Will figures out a way to tell Maya about his most meaningful relationships in a PG manner that also is interactive for her (Or as she describes it, "a love story mystery!"). Changing a few of their characteristics and disguising their names, Will tells her about three exceptional women and Maya tries to deduce which one became her mom. Was it Emily (Elizabeth Banks), the wholesome Midwestern girl afraid of the big city; Summer (Rachel Weisz), the exotic journalist; or April (Isla Fisher), the rebel with a cause? Hearing about all these women, Maya asks, "What's the boy word for slut?" Spanning 15 years, back to when Will was an idealistic young man with the hopes of one day becoming president of the United States, the film has a nice light touch and deals with father-daughter bonding issues in a unique, if not completely realistic manner. Reynolds is a genial but bland leading man, but the women--including young Breslin--more than hold their own in this fun film.

Step BrothersAwesome that is the one word that I can say about this movie, just awesome. The movie rocked. Step Brothers is about two grown men that just never grew up and ended up living with their parents played by Mary Steenburgen as Nancy Huff and Richard Jenkins as Dr. Robert Doback. Nancy and Dr. Doback meet at a conference and hit it off from the very start and decide to get married soon after making Dale Doback and Brennan Huff stepbrothers.

In the beginning both Dale and Brennan can't stand each other and work to destroy each other´s world. This is where all the fun and humor comes in. All the drama comes to a deep end when both find a common cause in Brennan Huff's brother Derek Huff. The over the top brother that disrespects everyone that he meets including Dale Doback who he thinks is the lowest of lowest.

Brennan and Dale find that they have more in common than previously thought; they both like the same women, movies, books and clubs. They both have the same ideas in businesses. In comes Alice Huff, the crazy wife of Derek Huff who hates her life with Derek. She becomes the crazy stalker after Dale punches Derrek in the eye. Dale instantly becomes her hero and she does anything and everything to be with him.

To say that this movie was funny is an understatement. I nearly rolled out of my seat for every single scene. Will Ferrel and John Reilly are one of the best comedy duo's I have ever seen. They play off each other so flawlessly that you forget that this is just a movie. What can I say about the mother? Mary Steenburgen played an exceptional part as the mother of this family. You could tell that she was uncomfortable saying a few of her lines but she rolled on with the punches. Richard Jenkins as the father was marvelous. I've seen him in other movies but non like this character that he plays and he played it flawlessly. Rolling over to Lurie Poston he played the hell out of the brother that anyone would HATE. I wanted to punch him in the face myself he was pissing me off so much. Last but not least, Kathryn Hahn. She played this part. She was crazy but had some lines that had me rolling in my seat. She had one scene where she used a male urinal standing up. Flawless delivery....

Overall, this was a great movie. I am even laughing while I write this review. I can't add much more than just go see this movie...

Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay

Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay

Beginning precisely where Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle left off, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay takes the film franchise in a more boorish and spuriously topical direction. Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) take an ill-fated flight to Amsterdam, during which Kumar's suspicious-looking bong is mistaken for a bomb. Their arrest prompts a wild-eyed, racist Homeland Security nut (Rob Corddry) to send the boys to indefinite lockup at Guantanamo Bay, where beefy guards sexually subjugate "enemy combatants." The duo manage to get away and make it back to the U.S., hoping the well-connected fiance (Eric Winter) of Kumar's old girlfriend, Vanessa (Danneel Harris), can get them out of their mess. During a dangerous and grotesque odyssey to Texas (where Vanessa is marrying her rich and vain boyfriend, much to Kumar's dismay), Harold and Kumar have episodic encounters with the Ku Klux Klan, a one-eyed, inbred monster, and old friend Neil Patrick Harris (as himself), who swallows fistfuls of magic mushrooms and drags the boys to a brothel stop that goes terribly wrong. The desultory comedy strikes a lowbrow tone from its opening scene (Harold takes a shower while Kumar has a diarrhea attack) and doesn't get much more interesting than that. If there's a bodily fluid that doesn't rate a joke in Guantanamo Bay, it doesn't exist. The persistent sight gags about weed (including a smoky visit with President Bush) never reach the kind of giddy pitch that pot humor requires, leaving a lot of the film's comedy just hanging like dead space. The sequel's attempt to say something, albeit in a gross way, about the state of the country during the Bush years is obvious and empty. Really, there isn't a lot of reason for Guantanamo Bay to have been made, except to print money.

ironmanI really like the Iron man super hero. He is like the ultimate creation by human technology. Even the newest military stealth fighters are no match for the hypersonic & virtually invincible flying suit of armor. Tony Stark has got all sorts of high tech weaponry in his Iron man suit like plasma rays & etc. Bound to survive by an advanced mechanical heart, Tony Stark becomes the Iron man to battle any form of terrorism which had caused him to lose his natural heart in the first place.

I thought I would shed some light on the origin of the Iron Man character played by Robert Downey Junior in the movie Iron man . Anthony "Tony" Stark was born on Long Island, New York which obviously made him a citizen of the United States. He is a genius inventor & the son of industrialist, Howard Stark. Tony Stark enrolled in college electrical engineering program at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) at age 15. With his father & mother being deceased, his only known relative is Morgan, his cousin.

Tony Stark then inherited his father's business, Stark Industries at age 21 & made it into a multi million-dollar company after a few years whose chief contracts were weaponry & munitions for the U.S. government. Iron man s first appearance was in the comic Tales of Suspense #39. The movie by Paramount Pictures & Marvel Enterntainment released 2008 next year is different than the original comic book regarding the location where the first Iron man was built (Vietnam) in order to reflect contemporary world issues. I reckon it is a good idea because viewers are able to relate to the present reality & make the Iron man movie more realistic.

Iron man does a sonic boom! Robert Downey Junior suits up to be the first Iron man in the movies. Samuel L. Jackson as an African American version of Nick Fury may not be such a bad idea after all. I mean he is the Samuel L. Jackson who does federal characters extremely well. I mean Iron man is about Robert Downey Junior. He is good at comedies & drama but as an action hero, we will have to wait & see. Also in the foray are the sweet Gwyneth Paltrow & Jim Rhodes which makes the Iron man movie an anticipated star studded blockbuster film next year.

The Iron man armor worn by Robert Downey Junior looks more realistic than the comic book version. In the Iron man movie, the armor looks like a full body casing with advanced hinges at the joints, rivets & the works. The armor of Iron man in the comics looks as though it is a shiny layer of metallic cloth donned over human muscle. A state of the art, magnetic molecular metal binding technology that makes the armor looks like cloth seems to far fetched idea at present. It is good that the costume designers had a more realistic looking suit of armor specially made for the Iron man movie.

Wow, what a movie.  This movie was gripping and drew out some very telling issues that a lot of marriages go through.  From infidelity, money, to death, Tyler Perry hit on all of the issues that tend to split any sound minded couple up.

This movie starts with four couples that go on a annual retreat to re-energize their marriages and to counsel with Patricia played by Janet Jackson, who by the way played a powerful doctor that specializes in marital and family counseling.  While on the trip the true nature of each couple comes out and almost destroys each relationship.  If it were not for Patricia who also had issues with the death of here son, all of the couples would have split up and never seen each other again.  I don't want to give away to much of the movie, but their was one couple that brought an extra friend that turned out to be the mistress of the husband of this couple.  Wow, this man really pisssssed me of through the entire film.  I wanted to jump on the screen and punch his lights out.  And I am not a violent person.  But he deserved it.  He talked about his wife like a dog and even made her drive to the retreat by herself after she got kicked off the flight for being to large to fit in the seating on the plane.  But she got her revenge in the middle and end of the movie.  Love it...

Tyler Perry really knows how to write and direct a movie.  This one was well done and transitioned from scene to scene with no choppy cuts.  This one is a keeper that children probably should not see because it has a lot of adult themes.  Not nudity but the children will not understand most of the situations.  Rent this one, buy this one, it is a great movie..

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!I don't know if it was the movie or just that I was tired but I ended up falling asleep for a portion of this movie.  I know what it was, it was the movie.  Not to say that this movie is bad.  No, this movie is perfect for the  children between 3 to 12 years old.  I kind of compare this movie to Barney, perfect for kids, mind numbing for adults.

Horton played by Jim Carrey is the elephant who has a captive audience of all the children in the forest and a huge influence on all of them finds a spec that he happens to find has a whole culture of WHO living on it.  And Hortan with his big ears can hear them.  But that is the problem, he is the only one who can hear them.  All of the adults think that he is making all of this up about the spec and such is influencing the children to believe in make believe and they can't have that.  So, one adult in particular takes it upon herself to try and get rid of the speek.  But anything that she does to get rid of the spec will destroy the WHO and Hortan has guaranteed to protect the WHO at all cost.

Steve Carell plays the Mayor of the town of the WHO who makes the initial contact with Horton and convinces him to take care of them and to get them to a safe spot so that nothing will happen to his beloved town and city.  His problem is that no one believe him either.  Actually, that don't have much confidence in him at all.  But he eventually does win over the town who also implore Horton to protect them also.

This movie is rated G and is for all in the family.  Small children will love and adore this movie.  All the children that were in my showing were laughing continuously throughout the entire film.

Enchanted

What can I say about this one.  One thing that I can say is that Disney definitely thinks outside of the box.  To take a long lasting love story, re-invent it and drop it right smack in the middle of New York.  But not only that; instead of keeping with the same old musical format were everyone is nice and willing to give everything in the drop of a moment, they change that.  Some people are actually mean.  Not just the evil step mother and her infatuated counterpart, but the extras, the fillers.

When I look at movies and review them I try to look at the movie and it entertainment value.  Does this movie keep my attention?  Does it make me laugh?  Do I get deep feeling of love or hate during the movie.  Well, I have to say that I got every emotion that I previously described out of this movie.  I got hate when Nathaniel, the evil princes’ minion, kept trying to dispose of Giselle, the prince true love.  I felt happiness when the prince came to rescue Giselle.  I felt nervousness when I thought the prince would never find Giselle.  But the strongest feeling of all came when Queen Narissa was introduced as the evil step mother who did not want to give up her throne.Enchanted had a lot of ups and downs.  But the movie kept on movie me along.  I did not find any parts that I just lost interest in.  This is also a movie that the whole family will enjoy.  Not just the children but all the adults should enjoy this one.  This is definitely a rent or buy.  For me I chose to buy it, especially since it is a Disney movie.  They tend to pull these off the rack after a while and I did not want to miss having this one in my collection.
